MARIACHI HERENCIA DE MEXICO
Mariachi Herencia de Mexico is Chicago's leading youth mariachi ensemble program.
Mariachi Herencia de Mexico performs in major concerts, festivals, community, corporate and sports events in Chicago. Additionally, the group will soon travel the U.S. on a performing arts tour.
Mariachi Herencia de Mexico is comprised of local Latino students (between the ages of 8 and 18) that share a deep passion for their culture and music.
DEBUT ALBUM: NUESTRA HERENCIA
Mariachi Herencia de Mexico released its debut album titled "Nuestra Herencia."
Nuestra Herencia reached a #2 Top Latin Album designation on iTunes, marking the CD as one of the most successful mariachi album releases in history.
Under the production of mariachi master, Jose Hernandez, with musical direction from Roberto Martínez and Joaquín Rodríguez, Nuestra Herencia makes history as the first major student mariachi album release.
Mariachi Herencia de Mexico pays tribute to the rich cultural heritage of mariachi music with an 11-track CD featuring tributes to Juan Gabriel and José Alfredo Jiménez. The album features guest appearances by world-renowned mariachi greats including, Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlán, Mariachi Los Camperos, Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez and Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles.

The program consists of three ensemble levels, including Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. These ensembles are intended to provide opportunities for collaborative music making for students who practice and perform their respective instruments. Instrumentation includes Violin, Trumpet, Guitar, Vihuela and Guitarron. If you have experience with any of these instruments, we invite you to register for an audition.
Under the musical direction of Roberto Martinez, Mariachi Cobre, and Joaquin Rodriguez, Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez, students engage in advanced mariachi music instruction learning style and technique in an ensemble setting. Students learn advanced mariachi repertoire featuring arrangements written specifically for them from some of the most important mariachi musicians in the world. Additionally, students will participate in mariachi clinics taught by guest mariachi musicians, clinicians and instructors.
Learn mariachi style and technique from renowned mariachi musical directors
Play violin, trumpet, guitar, vihuela or guitarrón
Participate in advanced ensemble instruction with students from across the city
Learn arrangements and repertoire from leading mariachi composers
Participate in workshops taught by guest clinicians and instructors
Perform in concerts, festivals and community events in prestigious venues
Wear our custom mariachi suit and sombrero
Travel to places like Walt Disney World and Guadalajara to perform and study
Record the next Mariachi Herencia de México album
The program is FREE to admitted students.
Students must meet the following requirements:
Student musicians must be in grades 3 through 12
Student musicians must have experience in at least one of the mariachi instruments
Student musicians must be in good academic standing
Student musicians must commit to attend rehearsals and performances regularly
Auditions to join Mariachi Herencia de Mexico are now open.
Register by May 28, 2017 for a chance to audition on June 3, 2017.
Currently seeking students with a minimum of three years of playing experience in violin and trumpet that sing.
Experienced students in guitarron, vihuela, or guitar can also apply.
